Klamath Falls Airport is served by Horizon Air and Alaska Airlines, providing direct flights to Portland and, soon, to San Francisco. The city also is situated on Oregon Highway 97, the principal north-south route through eastern Oregon, which runs from Washington to California.

Surrounded by vast pine forests, Klamath Falls was a hub of the Oregon timber industry throughout the 20th century. Agriculture also always has been and continues to be a major part of the region's economy.

In recent years visitors from Northern California and other parts of Oregon have discovered the Klamath area's pleasant climate and wealth of outdoor recreation opportunities, and the visitor industry is becoming increasingly important. Growing numbers of retirees and other emigrants from Northern California and elsewhere also are discovering that the Klamath Falls area offers many of the same lifestyle amenities as cities such as Bend and Ashland - without those cities' high real estate prices. Projections call for steady population growth in the Klamath area throughout this decade.
